Insider tip

<p>Ghana's most accessible wildlife + adventure day trip from Accra — 45 minutes east. Two distinct experiences in one reserve: (1) WILDLIFE DRIVE — baboons, kob antelopes, ostriches, rock hyraxes, green monkeys and 175+ bird species across the savannah. Morning visit essential — animals most active before 9am. (2) MOGO HILL CLIMB — a prominent granite rock formation inside the reserve. 7–10 minute climb using ropes and built-in chain assists up steep rocky terrain. Beginner-friendly, great for kids, panoramic views of green savannah at the summit. Green monkeys and baboons visible on the hill itself. CULTURAL DEPTH: Mogo Hill was a sacred site for the Dangme-Shai people — used for puberty rites for young women and as a sanctuary during war preparations. The cave systems throughout the reserve served as refuge from slave raiders in the 18th century. GEAR: Sturdy grippy shoes essential for Mogo Hill. Sporty clothing. DRY SEASON: Best for wildlife. RAINY SEASON: Landscape vibrantly green. COMBINE WITH: Akosombo Dam + boat cruise + Koforidua Bead Market (Thursday) = perfect full Eastern Region day from Accra.
